The Montgomery County Judicial Center – an award-winning project
Beaubois received a prestigious award from the Washington Building Congress for its contribution to the Montgomery County Judicial Center construction. The Craftsmanship Award in the Woods and Plastics category was awarded to the Beaubois team for providing high-quality woodwork for the project.
This contract was a first for Beaubois in the Maryland market and the largest architectural millwork contract for the entire project. The Beaubois team crafted judges’ benches, witness and jury boxes, bailiffs’ desks and benches for public seating. The judicial building includes 18 courtrooms, each specially designed with giant wood and copper-clad panels on the walls and ceilings. The unique combination of African kaya wood and copper cladding creates an elegant and textured effect in each room.
The Beaubois team also provided decorative woodwork and furnishings for the 10 judges’ suites, the washrooms, a back-up kitchen, the reception area and the metal detector doorways for the two entrances to the center.
