The San Bernardino Justice Center – a massive revitalization

The Beaubois team provided expert woodwork services for the large San Bernardino Justice Center project in California. In development since 2007, the new justice center is 11 storeys high, making it the largest public building constructed in the area in the last 50 years. The entire project required an investment of $340M(USD).

Beaubois produced and installed natural cherry wood furniture in each of the 35 courtrooms including judges’ benches, lawyers’ tables, bailiffs’ desks, and public seating. The team also installed solid wood ceilings and decorative grilles for the lights and diffusers. As a unique touch, they covered three walls in each room with a white solid material generally used for counters or laboratory furniture. The process required extreme precision, as the margin for manoeuvre was only 1/8 of an inch.

The previous San Bernardino courthouse is now used exclusively for civil and probate cases, and the new justice center consolidates services from seven other justice facilities. The new construction is earthquake-resistant and meets LEED® environmental standards. Beaubois is thrilled to have worked on this new facility that will generate jobs and contribute to the revitalization of San Bernardino’s downtown core.
